This is a very nice condition WWI era Russian leather ammo pouch, intended to hold loaded 5 round stripper clips for the M1891 Mosin Nagant Rifle. From the age and style of the pouch, we believe it to be Imperial Russian Issue from the WWI era. It then stayed in service into the Soviet era, and was modified in the 1930s with the addition of a D Ring to interface with combat suspenders. We have found references to
